Washington-Slaagbai National Park

Washington-Slaagbai National Park, encompassing some 13,000 acres of the northern end of Bonaire, is truly one of the island’s most treasured assets. Rugged, unspoiled terrain; out of the way coves and beaches; mountains and salinas — it represents much of Bonaire’s best natural beauty. Divers, snorkelers, mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, birdwatchers and nature lovers enjoy time spent in the park shared with few others. You need at least half a day, food and plenty of water to really enjoy the Park. If you have kids or elderly along, a shorter vistit might be a better option. Washington-Slaagbai also serves to educate and preserve the geologic, natural and cultural history of Bonaire and its former plantation background. There are several outdoor exhibits along with a nice museum and gift shop at the entrance of the park that enlightens travelers of Bonaire’s topside wonders and past.

Plan to spend an hour or more just walking the outside exhibits and the museum. You can do a snack under the shade next to a whale skeleton. That ranks up there with dinosaurs on the cool meter for most kids. To get the big picture, go to http://www.washingtonparkbonaire.org/index.html
