| Christmas Season on Bonaire |

Every year on December 5, Sint Nicholas comes to Bonaire to see the children of the island. He's known as Sinterklaas to Dutch children or Sanikolas to Antilleans. Accompanied by his assistants, the Black Piets (Swarte Pieten), he lands by boat at the main pier on Bonaire to the delight of throngs of families.
Although Sint Nicholas is associated with gift giving and the Christian holiday, his beginnings date back over 600 years to Dutch folklore and tradition. The tradition may be Dutch, but the people of their former colonies have embraced it - even when he arrives with bishop's hat, heavy red robes, mittens and trappings of a Santa, all on a tropical island. |

Continental has moved its Newark service to Bonaire to Friday night departures with Saturday arrivals and returns, with its Sunday service being used only during peak travel periods Feb. 18-Apr. 28, 2012 (same as their Houston service operates).
Dutch Antilles Express is reported to be completing refurbishment of their ATR-42 seat turboprop to resume service between Bonaire and Curacao starting in January with two flights each day and additional flights to be added with two new ATR's to be added in April 2012. |

Cold weather, excited kids, holiday traditions - and another year speeding to a close. The new Van den Tweel superstore has opened on Kaya Industria in Kralendijk, bringing Bonaire visitors and residents the island's largest and most complete food shopping experience. With over 35,000 square feet of shopping, warehouse and service space, Bonaire's newest supermarket offers a wide variety of products from Holland, the USA and South America including specialty meats, cheeses, produce and bakery items. Highlights include:
- In house bakery
- International cheese shop
- Butcher shop
- Café and bar
- Laundry and dry clean service
- Deli and rotisserie
Hours of operation are from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. With constant deliveries by both air and sea, Van den Tweel plans to maintain a well stocked, reasonably priced and quality driven shopping alternative for Bonaire. |
