New TCB Website

bonairepros.com Tourism Corporation Bonaire (that’s the island government) has launched a new official website for the island at www.tourismbonaire.com and it is a very attractive and informative site. Great photos, easy navigation and in depth coverage on all of the islands activities, services and vacation planning info and links can be found here.

Check out the Bonairean locals on many of the pages – a unique touch that focuses on what makes Bonaire so special – her people! We like the “diver taxi driver” named Fayid, whose appearance suggests he’s one happy camper. Dude, how ya’ doin’ … we want your job.

Resort Update – Sand Dollar Condos

We are pleased to report that the remodeled Sand Dollar pool has reopened and is being enjoyed by Sand Dollar guests as we speak. The new pool features an elevated shallow sitting area great for small kids or just relaxing by the new Eddy’s Restaurant. Eddy and Sonja Carillo, who have been providing the breakfasts for Sand Dollar and Den Laman guests for the past several years, have taken over the poolside operation. Their popular breakfast buffet is offered as well as lunch, and the poolsidebar serves guests until 10pm at night.

Not to be left out, the Reef Restaurant at neighboring Den Laman serves lunch and dinner each day. Every Monday, a Rum Punch Party and buffet dinner is hosted by Bonaire Dive and Adventure.

American Airlines has announced new schedules to Bonaire starting September 3, 2008. Service will be reduced to three flights per week with flights to Bonaire from San Juan on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with returns on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. These new schedules come as part of American’s overall plan of reducing capacity and costs in the face of skyrocketing fuel prices.

New Car Rental Center

As soon as AB and Total Car Rental paved the way to open the new Airport Rental Center across the street from the airport terminal (complete with shuttle from baggage claim, air conditioned offices and a bar and restaurant for thirsty and hungry travelers), the government kindly asked them to vacate (sounds like the airport authority that rents space to other car rental companies might feel jilted). So they just moved down the road to the Plaza Resort Bonaire.

Look for the clearly marked shuttle bus at the airport if you are renting with Total or AB Car Rental. This will be a temporary location until things “get straightened out” or a better alternative is found. And you can still get out of the sun and get a drink and a snack as you wait for your rental!
