....People are really gearing up for 2006 on Bonaire. I’ve never seen so much fixing, painting, refitting, building and just making things better. Bonaire never looked so good. After spending several days with our many partners on the island, I can honestly say they are working harder than ever to show you the best Bonaire vacation experience possible. And they are rolling out some great deals to go with it.

....If you think you know Bonaire, I invite you to visit again and have a look. It is always changing. I guarantee there is a new discovery – a new adventure – waiting for you. Just about everywhere you turn, there is something different -- or something that you might have missed -- that will delight and surprise you. If you have never visited Bonaire, then come see why so many return again and again.

....Lucky for us all, Mother Nature blessed Bonaire as the perfect island to pursue our passions -- in her water, on her land, in her wind, and with her people. That, amigo, hasn’t changed a bit.

Ayo,
Cowboy Andy

Resort Update - Belmar Oceanfront Apartments

It’s little wonder that Belmar Oceanfront Apartments have become a favorite of many Bonaire regulars. With its envious setting directly on the sea and some of the best views on the entire island, this is a coveted spot for an intimate Bonaire vacation at affordable prices. Manon, Henriette and Maureen keep the guests happy and the office running smoothly, with a personal touch. Belmar has recently expanded and improved their dive shop, now part of the Buddy Dive family. Rob manages the small and friendly operation for Belmar guests. Many of the apartments have been upgraded and painted along with new décor and furnishings. But the prices have not changed a penny. Whether you are diving directly off the Belmar piers, making the short trip to Lac Bay for windsurfing or just relaxing in deluxe accommodations on the water’s edge – it’s pretty hard to beat Belmar for their location, price, quality and personal touch. More Adventures – More Fun

Scuba Diving, Snorkeling and Windsurfing have always been the Big 3 … but there are other activities available that are making a name on Bonaire as well. Kayaking and Mountain Biking opportunities on Bonaire rival any Caribbean island. Rentals as well as  guided trips can be arranged by any of the resorts and hotels. Kiteboarding Bonaire has become very popular, with a new school located on the flat waters of Atlantis, near the solar salt works. The new fast-paced and adrenaline-laced Landsailing Bonaire can be found on their own track and course on the windward side of the island, utilizing the new Blokart (windsurfer meets go-kart). Both Kiteboarding and Landsailing Bonaire offer clinics and instruction. And you might not believe it, but the Bonairean Golf Club is open with an 18 hole, par 71, handmade course. Hazards include bunkers, cactus and occasional donkeys and goats. Fairways and greens are not irrigated – its mostly manicured sand and dirt (Bonairean Bentgrass).  Call it Eco-golf along an oceanfront lunar landscape. Clubs and pull carts are available for rent. You can leave your Pings at home.

The Diving is Here; Hurricanes are Not!
It's true. You have a lower risk of having a hurricane or tropical storm find you on your vacation to Bonaire compared to most of the Caribbean. South of the “Hurricane Belt”, why not plan your trip to a destination where diving and sunshine are year round companions? Find out more about the Marine Park and Bonaire diving here.

For the past 30 years, Bonaire diving has been synonymous with Captain Don’s Habitat, founded in 1976 by the illustrious Captain Don Stewart. This true haven for divers has evolved into a world-renowned dive resort catering to scuba divers, snorkelers and Bonaire lovers alike. But don’t think 70’s dive lodge here. Not with amenities like the relaxing Intermezzo Day Spa. Their Rum Runners restaurant that draws rave reviews. Or the variety of accommodations ranging from the new tropical Oasis Cottages to the Deluxe Ocean View Suites with Wi-Fi internet access. But don’t worry; the diving is still the show. Freedom is just another word for… tanks-24-hours-a-day!

To connect to one of the many flights into Aruba from the U.S., be sure and give yourself 2 hours or more on the return connection (from Bonaire to Aruba). After claiming baggage and re-checking it for your flight back home, you must also go through U.S. Customs and Immigration in the Aruba airport before heading to the U.S.A.
(Send us a travel tip … if it’s a good one, we’ll print it and give you a $25 discount coupon off your next Bonaire vacation!)

Americans Will NOT Need Passports for Bonaire
B We reported in our last newsletter that the U.S. State Department would require passports for all U.S. citizens traveling to and from the Caribbean, effective Jan. 1, 2006. Guess what? It’s been pushed back to 2008. For details on the new law, click here. So hang on to that frayed and barely legible rag -- your certified copy of your birth certificate. You still have a valid proof of citizenship for your next Bonaire vacation. Big thanks to the State Department. By the way, was that Secretary Rice diving at Karpata the other day? DETAILS >
