Editors Note – This is part of a series of interviews and updates from the island focused on Bonaire diving news during the pandemic.
We checked in on our friends at Buddy Dive (with locations at Buddy Dive Resort, Belmar Oceanfront Apartments and Caribbean Club Bonaire) to see how things were going and what we have to look forward to.
BP: So what’s the diving been like for your team during the pandemic?
Buddy Dive: First of all we want to say that we cannot wait to welcome you again at Buddy Dive Resort! We’ve been hosting guests from Europe again and everything is going really well.
The reefs of Bonaire haven’t seen a lot of tourists in the last six months. While there were no tourists on the island, we have been diving a lot! The marine life is still abundant and the reef is healthy and colorful.
With no guests to dive with, the crew of Buddy Dive Resort has been able to help Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire a lot with their restoration work. Our guests will see the results all around Bonaire and particularly when diving from our dock on Buddy’s Reef. There are coral nurseries and restoration sites right in front of the resort, only a few steps away from the apartments.
BP: What new protocols have been put in place that divers can expect?
Buddy Dive: We took all necessary measures to be able to protect the safety of our guests and crew. We have created a “Temporarily Normal” check list. It’s pretty exhaustive and covers not just diving, but every aspect of the guest experience. You can view the list for each resort from the links below:
A few examples of measures we took at all dive shops: rinse tanks contain disinfectant; dock areas with one-way traffic; hand sanitizer provided at multiple locations; liability forms provided online before arrival (to prevent lines in the dive shop). To allow social distancing on the dock and boats, guests can also sign up for boat dives online. We will adjust the boat dive schedules with extra departures to have less divers aboard for any given dive. That’s going to translate to an even better dive experience for our guests.
Our entire crew has been trained and knows exactly how to protect your and their safety — without taking away the fun of your vacation!
BP: Any other news you would like to share with our readers?
Buddy Dive: While we were closed, we finished the renovation of Blennies restaurant and bar at Buddy Dive. It got a complete new look. Of course the amazing ocean view, tasty food and cold drinks, didn’t change.
One thing we did not change is our Drive and Dive packages. They still offer everything to enjoy shore diving paradise in its best way. Cruise around the island in your Buddy Dive pick-up truck, dive the warm and calm waters of the Caribbean sea with your unlimited air/nitrox package and enjoy cold tropical drinks and great food in our oceanfront restaurants after a day of diving!
BP: Thanks guys – we are ready for some Bonaire time with Buddy Dive. Stay safe and see you soon!
